The perils of being Melania

 https://news.yahoo.com/melania-trump-slams-former-friend-170700228.html?.tsrc=daily_mail&uh_test=2_04

Melania Trump expressed surprise over Vogue selection of Beyoncé for 2018 cover

Melania Trump on Friday blasted her ex-friend Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, who wrote a tell-all book about her relationship with the first lady, saying the author "hardly knew me" and was "trying to distort my character."

Winston Wolkoff should be "looking within at her own dishonest behavior," Trump wrote.

The statement from the publicly guarded first lady comes after the Justice Department this week took the extraordinary step of filing suit against Winston Wolkoff over "Melania and Me: The Rise and Fall of My Friendship with The First Lady," a New York Times bestseller that was released six weeks ago.

Winston Wolkoff told NBC News that "I find it puzzling that the first lady of the United States asked someone she 'hardly knew' to attend her nuptials, join her for countless lunches, help plan the presidential inauguration, stay over at the White House and Mar-a-Lago, and act as her senior advisor."

Trump did not mention Winston Wolkoff by name, but the details in the statement, which was framed as promoting the first lady's Be Best initiative, left little doubt as to whom she was referring.

"BE BEST has one simple purpose — to help children," Trump wrote. "It serves to provide the tools children need to prepare them for their futures," but "more often than not, information that could be helpful to children is lost in the noise made by self-serving adults. I have most recently found this to be the case as major news outlets eagerly covered salacious claims made by a former contractor who advised my office."

The first lady described Winston Wolkoff as a "person who said she 'made me' even though she hardly knew me, and someone who clung to me after my husband won the presidency. This is a woman who secretly recorded our phone calls, releasing portions from me that were out of context, then wrote a book of idle gossip trying to distort my character."

Trump said that Winston Wolkoff blames her in the book "for bad news coverage that she brought upon herself and others. Never once looking within at her own dishonest behavior and all in an attempt to be relevant. These kinds of people only care about their personal agenda — not about helping others."

ENGLISH VERSION:

HEARTBREAK OF VIETNAM'S AWAITING WIFE

I don’t just stand here to count time
Like tears, time flows by old towns that no longer shine,

Under midnight stars
Into rivers

Out to such immense sea
I let my tears be…
Over me,
the fogged moon’s no longer free

I don’t just stand here to greet passers-by
My body splits such border line,
My hair the Red River’s silt,
yarned into our homeland’s quilt

The nation’s sword sparkles into green jade
My hair whitens: my cry for the gloom of our fate

Yet, I don’t just stand here to mourn for nationhood
The story of our first Hung King, now gone for good
‘cause tomorrow, like me, pray to stonify
Breakage of the country: the nocturne of my cry

So I don’t just stand here, on top of this mountain
To shed tears for the Tran emperor, or relive the ancient

If the people miss the glory of the past,
simply burn incense for our tomb, and hope its light will last...

ABOUT POETS AND POETRY

my poetry, place of refuge,  not to be touched
as it is beyond reproach
since it is the harvest's last stalk
from a ricefield meant to be mine
my rice:
my sweat, blood, flesh, bone...my cry...

huế

HUẾ CUẢ LÒNG TUI
Tiếng "Me" gọi mẹ như me chua
Tiếng "Mạ" gọi mạ như cây luá
Me chua, mạ lúa, cũng Huế tề
Huế thiệt, Huế chay, Huế lãnh thổ
Huế tui, Huế mệ, thương quá đi
Răng mà thương qúá, hỡi o ni
Tìm o như thể tìm chim hỉ
Chim chìm bụi ớt, kêu như ri
Huế cuả tui hay Huế cuả o
Huế mình, là Huế cuả ngảy xưa
Mạ tụi đã ngủ triền miên giấc
Tui nhớ dòng sông, nhớ bến bờ

The "AOC" factor for America -- the "bete noire" or "L'enfant Terrible"?

http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/alexandria-ocasio-cortez-i-am-as-powerful-as-a-man/ar-BBUlJ2L?li=BBnbfcL&ocid=iehp

Taking all partisan issues out of the equation:  The "AOC" factor stands for the American dream: a young, poor (relatively) immigrant's daughter, yet attractive, educated, daring, and outspoken, could win the race to public service against the rich and the established, thereby carving out the podium in life for herself and others like her. What she needs still is wisdom, plus the sophistication and caution that go with old-age wisdom.  But, after the two World Wars, America, as a continent compared to old Europe, was the "young" country for the "deviant," the revolutionary and the unsophisticated.  It's known as the land of immigrants (before immigrants were divided into "legal" and "illegal" -- the "legal" framework of a country with borders. The American values, however, are supposedly without borders -- that which makes Americans proud.
