MOZART'S RELIGIOUS MUSIC FOR THE HOLIDAYS

Mozart's Ave Verum Corpus -- Thơ phổ nhạc
Ave: hail, tôn kính (Ave Maria: đức mẹ Maria tôn kính)
Verum: true, truth -- verity, verité, sự thật
Corpus: body -- corps, tấm thân
Ave Verum Corpus is a hymn, a poem about the body of Christ on the cross to sacrifice for the salvation and redemption of humankind -- the Last Supper, when Christ, knowing he had been betrayed, told his disciples to drink wine as his blood, and to eat bread as his body/flesh.
Several composers made this poem into sacred music. Mozart was among them.
This is often sung by a trained chorus. Here, I am all...by myself, not thoroughly trained! I sing it anyway.
Please forgive my imperfection.
Latin
Ave verum corpus, natum
de Maria Virgine,
vere passum, immolatum
in cruce pro homine
cuius latus perforatum
fluxit aqua et sanguine:
esto nobis praegustatum
in mortis examine.
English translation:
Hail, Body of truth, born of the Virgin Mary,
having truly suffered, sacrificed
on the cross for mankind,
from whose pierced side
water and blood flowed:
Be for us a foretaste
in the trial of death!
